    • Michael Slay, 63, of Monroe, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, March 23, 2019.

      He grew up in Shellman, Georgia, and was a proud graduate of Terrell Academy. He was a devoted fan of the University of Alabama and later in life also a fan of the University of Georgia.

      After high school he enlisted in the Air Force in order to serve our country. He was a master sergeant in the Vietnam conflict. After his tour was complete, he went on to earn his degrees at Troy State University before beginning work in the information technology industry. He was an employee at FiServ where he was honored to work for 32 years.

      He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Whit and Margie Slay, of Shellman.

      He is survived by his loving wife, Carrie Slay; his stepdaughter and her husband, Selena and Billy Campos, of Bethlehem; cousins, Kaylene Slay and family, of Dothan, Alabama; Jody and DK Newell and family of Aiken, South Carolina, Sheila Brunson and family, of Enterprise Alabama, and many other cousins; sister-in-law Laura Greer, Ronnie Waits and family, of Bethlehem; and Sgt. Kirby (Royal Canadian Mounted Police), Nancy Adams and son, Oisin, of Langley, British Columbia.

      He also leaves behind cherished friends Andy and Ruth Moore, of Bronwood, Georgia, Oz and Angie Newton, of Monroe, Delphene Diamond, of Conyers, Maria and Jorge Campos and family, of Bethlehem, and the FiServ family. He also leaves behind his beloved pets, border collie Bonnie Rose, and his three cats, Randolph, Cecile, and Seville.

      A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home of Monroe.

      Visitation will be from 10:30 until 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at the funeral home.

      Michael requested donations be made to nonprofit, no-kill animal rescues.
