Mr. Clois Slay was born in the Hickory Grove Community, of Deville, on May 21, 1935 and passed from this earth on August 24, 2019, at the age of 84, in his residence with his loving family by his side. He was the youngest of the eight children, of Edgar and Rose Slay. As a young boy he attended Buckeye School and worked with his father and brothers cutting ties in the woods around their home. Being a good worker, he always had a job and learned many trades. In 1956 he married Willie Dean Paul and moved to Alexandria, where he went to work for the City of Alexandria Gas Department. He worked his way up to become superintendent of the department and retired after thirty years of employment. He continued to work with his brother-in-law for a while afterwards cleaning up railroad derailments. He was a long standing member of Holloway Baptist Church and the Oliver No. 84 F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge. He was good man who cared and provided for his family, always being concerned about their wellbeing. He moved back to the old home place in Hickory Grove, in 1970, where he built his home and resided there until his death. He loved to hunt and fish and spent many a day enjoying doing both. As he was a good mechanic, he could be counted on to help keep your vehicle, lawnmower and outboard motor running. After the death of his wife Willie Dean, he married Doris R. Price and resided together until his death. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Slay and Rose (Hickman) Slay; his wife of forty-five years, Willie Dean Slay; two brothers, Westly Slay and his wife, Pat and Claude Slay; three sisters, Willie Mae Belgard and her husband, Sterlin, Ernestine Bridges and her husband, John C., Clydie Nugent and her husband, Trois and former husband, Dudley Wiggins; brother-in law, J.
